Other than the fact that Sony launched the new X series, Alcatel launched the POP 4 Series, HTC announced the Desire 530, 630 and 825 and a host of other releases at the Mobile World Congress 2016, there has been two much talked about releases, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Duo and the LG G5.
The LG G5 is the new flagship device from LG and a successor to the LG G4 which was launched last year. The device waves goodbye to the good-old plastic design and says hello to metal design with rounded edges.
The LG G5 Specifications
The LG G5 sports a 5.3 inch display which is a bit smaller than last year’s G4 display with same resolution of 2560 × 1440 (Quad-HD) but of course, with better specs and performance.
The G5 again incorporates the IPS-LCD panel with an Always On feature as seen on the new Samsung Galaxy S7 duo.
The LG G5 has got its fingerprint sensor at the back which also doubles as the power button. In regards camera, the device sports a dual camera system with 16 mega pixels back camera accompanied with an 8 megapixel camera.
The 16MP camera has a standard 78-degree lens while the 8 megapixel camera has a 135 degree wide-angle lens leaving you with two options to choose from.
The LG G5 sports a redefined design that tend to answer most customer feedback with the innovation that allows a slide-out bottom compartment that houses the ‘removable’ 2800 mAh battery (quick charge 3.0 technology) and micro SD slot.
The slide out compartment isn’t usable for only the SD card and battery, it also allows the use of other accessories which LG refers to as the ‘LG G5 Friends‘. Some of the accessories that can be used with the LG G5 includes a Camera Grip which provides camera controls and additional battery life. An Audio DAC attachment which helps provide a more immersive audio experience, A VR headset accompanied with a few others.
Software and Hardware
In terms of Operating System, the LG G5 runs the latest android 6.0.1 marshmallow OS accompanied with LG’s own streamlined User Interface (UI) leaving the same colorful visuals and skins as seen on the G4 and G3. However, the LG G5 lacks the App drawer and thus, going with Apple’s approach of displaying everything on the home screen.
In terms of Hardware, the LG G5 is powered by Qualcomm’s latest snapdragon 820 chip with four custom 64-bit CPU cores, Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB of UFS storage. Of course, the storage capacity can be expanded with the use of a microSD card.
The LG G5 also introductions the VR headset which can be connected to the phone via it’s USB Type-C port and it’s one of the LG G5’s friends. We’d believe the headset comes with the package just the same way the Samsung VR headset will be shipped with the Samsung S7 duo at no additional price.
In regards price and availability, LG hasn’t officially confirmed a price yet. However, it is believed the device will be sold for around $650 to $700. No specific date yet to as to when the device will be available. We’d communicate that as soon as we get the report.
