Hello guys, it’s finally here. It’s been weeks now since we had the Infinix Zero 2 X509 android phone. We even did an unboxing and hands-on review of the android phone and said we will be publishing a full review of the device the following week.
We sincerely apologize if we took too much time than expected.
This was a result of the fact that we had too many things in our hands and more so, we wanted to be more sure of the device before bringing forth a review as we wouldn’t want to say things we are not sure of.
Infinix Zero 2 Review
Anyway, here is the full review of the infinix zero 2 x509 phone which was tagged as The Next Hero before and during its launch on the 4th of June at the University of Lagos Main Auditorium.
Is the device truly the Next Hero? Does it justify all the hype it’s been getting in the last few months?
We’d have to leave that for you to decide at the end of this review.
Introduction
The Infinix Zero 2 X509 phone when it comes to its hands-on feel, is really a device to behold.
Over the past few months, we have constantly been trailed with the Next hero coming soon. I have always wondered, “Next Hero?”
The last time I checked, I don’t think a phone can actually fly like Iron Man, Batman, or Superman. Neither can it run like speed and other superheros we have often watched on TV.
Well, unless the company refers to speed in terms of Multitasking, gaming, and sorting. So far, I think the device has done well in that regard.
Just before we advance more into talking about the infinix zero 2 x509 phone, let’s take a look at the key features of the device.
Infinix Zero 2 Key Features
- 5.0 – inch HD AMOLED display, with 720 × 1280 pixels (294 PPI) with Gorilla Glass 3
- Android KitKat 4.4.2 MediaTek MT6592 chipset with octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex
- 2 GB of RAM Size
- 13 Megapixels back camera with Autofocus and LED flash. Pixel count 3120 x 4160 pixels and Video recording of 1080p.
- 5 Megapixels, 85-degree wide-angle, front-facing camera, with pixel count 2560 x 1920 pixels and 480p video recording.
- 32 GB internal storage ( 27 GB usable) There’s also a 16GB version.
- Dual SIM support, Both SIM slots are Micro-SIM, 3G switchable on both sims.
- 2300mAh Non-removable battery.
Things we are not so comfortable with
Please note, the disadvantages we are going to be stating here are based on our own opinion. You may see things differently.
No Quick Charge Feature
Yes, we quite understand that this is not so much an issue but for a company that has produced an earlier device that supports fast charging, we expect it to be on newer devices.
Non-Removable 2300mAh Battery
We have unboxed and used the Infinix Hot Note android phone which sports a battery capacity of 4000mAh and it’s non-removable.
The infinix zero 2 phone, on the other hand, sports a battery capacity of 2300mAh and it’s also non-removable.
Personally, the battery capacity is quite small compared to what we expect in this current economy.
SIM Tray and Memory Card Tray
Although we are beginning to live with this as most devices now come with the SIM card tray and the memory card tray at the sides. However, not everyone is comfortable with this.
If you have had a chance to use a blackberry Q5 phone, you’d realize that you certainly do not need a pin or a sim ejector to remove the sim card or memory card from the phone.
In the case of the infinix zero 2 phones, you certainly need one. Fortunately, A SIM ejector comes with the pack but what if you are not close to the ejector neither can you get a pin within your reach?
Infinix Zero 2 Unboxing
We had put up a detailed post that talked about the unboxing of the device. We even went ahead to providing a video which we constantly do on every review device we get. However, we’d like to give you a quick summary of what to expect.
Unboxing the pack, below are basically what’s contained in it:
- The Infinix Zero 2 Smartphone
- A 2 port power input
- A 3 port charger Power input
- A smaller pack that contains the SIM and Memory Card tray ejector, earphone, USB cable, zero 2 user guide, safety information, and an instruction card on how to cut your SIM Card.
Hardware and Design
The Infinix Zero 2 is a 5.0 – inch HD AMOLED display, with 720 × 1280 pixels (294 PPI) with Gorilla Glass 3. The side finish is designed with aluminum and has got curvy edges.
The back cover is made from Kelvar which is a material used in making bulletproof vests (Guess that’s another reason why it was called the Next hero lol).
In the unboxing post, we talked more about the hands-on review which includes a detailed discussion of the design and everything you need to know about the hardware and a little bit of software.
In-other to save us some repetition, we are just going to move on to what we have not talked exclusively about in regard to the device. If you’d like to read more about the Design and Hardware, you can read the Hands-On Review Here.
Smart Gestures
Not to forget, the infinix zero 2 comes packed with some smart gestures which make using your phone more phone. However, these gestures have to be activated from the settings page.
With smart gestures enabled, you can wake your phone by just swiping up the phone on the screen. You can change the song (next or previous) by swiping from left to right and vice versa.
You can also quickly launch music and other apps even when the phone is asleep by just drawing W on the screen. Pretty cool feature.
Display
Just like most android phones running stock android OS, the infinix zero 2 has some pretty intriguing displays.
Considering the kind of screen it comes with, operating the phone is sort of a pleasurable experience. Unlike other infinix phones we have used, the device comes with a more sleek design.
The notification tray is really not much different from that of the infinix hot note x551. However, we just got to admit that we love the touch of green color design on this one and it does look better than the former.
Of course, the device has got app drawer that enables you to see all of the apps installed on the device. It also has the function keys placed on the screen which is kind of a new thing when involved with the latest infinix phones.
At first, this was sort of a turn-off for me but after getting to understand the device better, I prefer the on-screen function keys to what it has always been because it blends with the screen functionality easily.
Music Player Design
Do you really think the music interface on the infinix zero 2 x509 android phone as shown above is cool?
Battery Life
If I have to talk personally about this, the battery has not really been encouraging. In-other to come up with an accurate battery test, we decided to do an intensive use of the device.
We had to turn the music on to the loudest volume and at the same time, play games on the device. On a battery percentage of 100%, we commenced playing songs at their highest volume alongside playing different games from 3:40 PM and at about 7:10 PM, the battery percentage had gone then to 10%.
Luckily, the device has a really cool power-saving mode that restricts you from doing other functions on the phone other than making or receiving calls, sending text messages, checking your phone contact list, and using the clock.
On a 10% battery, the ultra-saving mode boosts a 3-hour battery use.
Performance
Now, this is where I will say the device did pretty well. For straight hours, we used the device in playing games and playing music at the same time, the device didn’t lag at all.
Multitasking works very well and fast too. In-other to give you more details in regard to the performance, we had to conduct a test using the Antutu benchmark app. See the results below:
Camera
The 13 megapixels back camera is really cool. Taking pictures during the night-time is also cool too unlike the infinix hot note camera which isn’t so cool when taking pictures at night.
In regards to the front-facing camera, I would say I wasn’t really so impressed. Although it’s a 5 megapixels camera that produces better pictures, I just felt the device could produce better pictures.
Don’t blame me, I love selfies and sorts.
Wrapping Up
The device is really cool. I am not trying to hype the phone or anything. If you are the type who loves light-weight phones, trust me, the infinix zero 2 is really very light. Just 118g. Very much lighter compared to the infinix hot note device and the earlier infinix zero.
If you want my opinion in regards to whether to get the device or not, in all sincerity, I’d say YES! However, if you are the type who makes intensive use (playing games, browsing, chattings frequently) of your device and still want to get the zero 2 phones, you may want to consider getting a power bank too.
Sam plz wt causing infinixzero2.charging wen it off.bt nt charging wen its on nd alsoshown tem low
Hii all

Hi Samuel, it is a good reviue, most you talking about is like in fact in Praxis, I am from Germany , buy this phone in Africa, its for this price cool, but I am disappointad about the 13 MP camera, the pictures only good, if you have enough light , I mean daylight , so them are nice , but like indors I just can confirm, is many others even cheaper Phone, making better pictures, but the relation Price and overal performance are realy good.
Hi..i bought this phone late last month(october)..this thing of phone going OFF AND ON is just boring. kindly help us know whats he problem and how we can solve it.
Thanks.
I bought Informix x509 zero some 10 days but whenever II go to system upgrade of 82 mb,i got the reply of low internal memory and delete item, the phone has 27GB space left.it’s really frustrating.what can i do? Please help.
hi Sam, thanks for this. I just got the phone, currently charging it, I hope to enjoy it and also hope not to experience the switching on and off thing. but please how do I upgrade to lollipop?
Yes the infinite zero 2 is a gud phone since have been using mine have not been getting any issues currently running on lollipop
for how long does the battery last pls ??
I love this article.Except that that the battery capacity is low.But to my surprise,at 10% you could still use the phone for texts and calls. This feature is phenomenal.
Pls is the lollipop official version out? Also can d Infinix Carl care update it for me if I take it there?
Is it possible to upgrade to lollipop is? If yes how. Also the switching on/off do happen to my phone too. Pls help us find out what might be wrong.
Abraham, yes it is possible to upgrade to android lollipop. We already have it running on my device. You can view here: https://hubsidy.com/2015/09/hands-on-with-android-5-1-lollipop-on-infinix-zero-2-x509-how-to-upgrade.html
Hi Sam. Can you pls help me out with how to switch between sims on the infinite zero 2 sim. Mine is stuck on 2nd sim despite activating both sims. Thanks
Babs, i am already using the lollipop OS on our zero 2 device here. Hence, the tips i will be giving you here is on android 5.1 lollipop for zero 2. Dunno if it’s same for kitkat (at least, not anymore).
Go to settings, tap on SIM cards and make sure both sim 1 and sim 2 slots are toggled ON. If the problem persists, chances are, the sim1 slot of your phone could be faulty.
Hi Sam, can you help me identify how I can switch between sims on the infinite zero 2. Mine is stuck on 2nd sim, despite activating both sims. Thanks
Hi Sam, can you help me identify how I can switch between sims on the infinite zero 2. Mine is stuck on 2nd sim, despite activating both sims. Thanks
i bought it and from very first day it has restart and turn off issue. there is also another problem, when its screen goes to sleep or turns off, on half upper portion of screen lot of colored dots appear for 40-50 seconds and than disappeared.
Zahid, if that was the case of the device when you got it, you should have returned it and ask for a replacement. However, navigate to settings > Scheduled Power on & off and confirm if both options are turned off. If yes, try doing a factory reset.
oh my god finally. the same thing happens on mine. I guess its a common problem with S-AMOLED screens on the zero 2. Do you have a problem connecting it to mass storage ?
Hi..i wanted to know about the functionality of infinix zero 2 speakers. Are the two speakers working?
lol Kirui, you don’t expect them to produce a phone without the speakers working. Do you? Well, to answer your question, doing a proper inspection on the loud speakers, i realized only the right speaker tend to work. Guess that’s where the speaker is placed. That didn’t come as a surprise to me though because the iPhone works that way as well. In regards the headset speaker, that works well.
quite remarkable what they have managed to do.I cannot wait for their next phone.but yeah. the non removable battery sucks.is battery corrupts the whole phone is dead!
‘is battery corrupts the whole phone is dead!’. I don’t think that is totally true. Take for instance, the blackberry Q5 with a non-removable battery. If the battery is bad, it can be changed by a phone engineer. The non-removable battery tag just means the battery can’t be removed by just anyone.
Hi Samuel i appreciate what you are doing here i have a question for you myself. I bought the same phone from SLOT at Ikeja City Mall and it’s working perfectly but the problem is that it kept exhausting my Data Plan. I ended up using 4g Data from Etisalat within 6 days. It’s big concern for me, is there a way i could turn off the automatic downloads of all application running on the Zero 2 ?I will appreciate your quick reply.
Ines, sorry about your ordeal. Launch the Play Store app, tap on the menu icon, tap on settings, Tap on Auto-Update apps and choose ‘do not auto-update apps’ or ‘auto update apps over wifi only’.
yes…I read thru the review……but I guess ur comment on the pic quality wasn’t extensive enough, cus I wouldn’t want to compromise on my pic quality ….but all the same tanx….
I’m 4rm Ghana and about to purchase the said phone ..I want to know how loud the phone is..,.and also a little education about the phone’s pic quality at night…
Hello Nice, have you read through the review extensively? Like i stated on the post, the speakers are okay. No issues so far. I also shared some pictures on the post. Please look through them and see if that describes your description of picture quality at night. However, it is certainly better than the infinix hot note.
Sorry Sam… How many colour variants has the phone, and what are they?
I think it’s basically two. Black and Red.
Okay. Thank you very much Sam. You’re a fellow indeed! I go for your confirmations and trust God to get the device soon.
Thanks Sam once more. Sorry to say this: I checked the infinix zero 2 page on Facebook and saw people’s comments. One of it was that they were suggesting the zero 2 should be improved upon by also incorporating it with that feature (magnetometer/compass); which would mean that the phone lacks it. Are you really pretty sure you tried it (like I had said) and it worked? Please help me Sam. Sorry I don’t mean to doubt or dispute but… Just a bit confused.
Biam, if i didn’t try it, are you suggesting i may have gone to the playstore app and read a name for you? Well, i tried it. If i didn’t, i wouldn’t have said i did. I don’t product the device so what do i game from convincing you to buy the device?
hello sir..may i ask ,how long do u need for charging ur infinix zero 2 from 25-30% until it’s full 100% ?
Steven, haven’t had to calculate that o.
Okay Sam. It is not so easy explaining comprehensively what a magnetometer is… But it’s a feature on smartphones that supports magnetic compasses (for measuring direction) when installed on such a device. If a device lacks it, the compass wouldn’t function even when successfully installed on a smartphone. Since you have the very phone (zero 2) yourself, I think the best way to verify that is to get to Google play store and download a good compass (just search for ‘compass’ and you’re sure to have lots of them), have it installed on the phone and then honestly report back to me whether or not you were able to use the app to read direction (North, South, East… as you turn about…).
This is important to me as a Geography student.
Hope the explanation is understood, Sam?
Thank you very much!
God bless.
Biam, I understand. I have been able to do as you suggested and yes, it works.I actually made use of the compass app by gabenative.
Hey Sam, I am Irfan from Pakistan and I really like this phone because of these features: Light weight, Slim, Shape, UI. I really wanna purchase this phone, but I have a few questions. If you can answer them it would be great.
1: I am not a very heavy user of mobile, don’t like playing movies and heavy video games on the mobile. but I will be doing a lot of internet surfing, watsapp, facebook and texting. Do you think the battery of this mobile would be helpful for me and last for a good length of time ?
2: I am concerned about the camera quality. You mentioned that camera quality is good, but as far as results (on your page) are concerned I think its a below average camera.
3: And lastly the most important, some people are saying that it turns and off itself. Is it true ? Apart from your own phone, have you seen physically someone having this issue?
THANKS.
A million thanks to you Sam, for this review. I guess you’re trust worthy and your suggestions/recommendations are credible and reliable…
Please let me know: does the zero 2 have a magnetometer, so as to support a magnetic compass when installed thereon?
Secondly, does the zero 2 come with themes for one to change or it’s just the default one alone?
I’m a Geography student at BSU and will appreciate if my questions are well attended to.
Thanks!
Hello Biam, thanks for the nice words but pardon me, i do not seem to understand what you mean by ‘does the zero 2 have a magnetometer, so as to support a magnetic compass when installed thereon?’. Do you mind explaining better?
As regards theme, most android phones running on MTK processor do not have options for changing theme and same applies to the zero 2. However, the device comes with a really nice and sleek interface (black and green) which is different from the usuals we have seen.
can the issue of its on and off by its own self is true
Ahmadshah, we do not experience that with the zero 2 phone we have at hand.
am tired of this off and on everyday. pls tell me if there is any solution my phone is rooted
Dammy, we do not experience any auto off/On on our device. Chances are, you or someone mistakenly tempered with a setting.
i support what Dammy says. my phone goes on and off as well, perhaps every 3 days. actually it turns off but thru combination of power key and volume it turns on… but no exact fixed combination. the manufacturer should know about this issue and its solution. thanks – Edgar
please tell me can the issue of its on and off on its own is true
Please does the phone get hot when in use like the infinix zero one.
Tope, so far so good, it doesn’t really get hot. At least, not up to other devices i have used in the past and still currently using.
hi everyone, does the infinix zero2 blinks a light?
Anonymous, if i get you correctly, you mean Notification light? If yes, No. The devices does not have notification light.
How loud is the phone and how long can it stay with out charging
can i change the non removable battery ? because i have a lot of recharge cycles a day because i am a heavy user ! .
many thanks
Saied, I’d believe it could be changed i.e if the battery can be found in the market.
hi nice review have you experience any temperature issue while chatting or run games with it?
No Zethron. At least, not as much as i have experienced with other devices lately.
Hi. Very good review and I agree with most of your opinions on this device. I just got one myself. However I have an issue with the phone. It turns off itself at random for an average of 20minutes before powering back on. Happens at least twice a day. Any idea of what could be wrong? Already notified the seller, an e commerce company. Thank you.
Adeyemi, I do not experience same on the device with me. If you haven’t rooted the phone, try doing a factory reset and see if that fixes the issue.
I have the same issue. I bought from Slot and they even changed the phone for me when I started having the issue less tan 24 hrs after purchasing but I am experiencing the same issue with the new one barely 24 hrs after I started using it. They have tried reloading the OS, asked me not to use a memory card with the phone, yet the issue persists.
What issues are you facing precisely?
The issue is that the phone goes off on its own and then comes back on. And its not a battery thing because the battery is always charged. The phone is an Infinix Zero 2. Thank you.
The said 13MP camera is interpolated.
Camera I will score it 5/10
Chipset is old, battery not encouraging.
This phone is over rated. Can’t waste my hard earned money on it.
Does it support 3/4g network 4 vodeo calling?
This support only 3G
I’m convinced but not with the battery charging slow…thanks alot SAM
Okay. thank you
Please how do I activate the notification led. Thank you
Hello Ai, there is no notification led on the device.
