Today being the 7th of September, 2016, Apple unveiled its 2016 flagships, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
Just before we go into the details. How about a fun fact? If you were asked to pick a number between 1 and 10, there’s a huge chance of picking 7 right?
How does that relate to this article, not in any particular way except for just taking note of the 7 ?.
Apple particularly choose September 7th, to unveil iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Makes sense yeah??
Design
Back to the details. The iPhone 7 and it’s bigger brother, the iPhone 7 Plus, features same design we’ve very well seen in frequent leaks. Hence, the design didn’t exactly come as a surprise.
What’s probably more fascinating in terms of the design, is the fact that the new iPhone 7 duo will be available in new Jet Black color which certainly looks gorgeous. It’s beginning to seem like a new iPhone brings about a new color variant.
The iPhone 6s duo brought about a rose-gold color while the 7 duo brought about a jet black color which looks stunning. Of course, the 7 duo will be available in other color variants like the gold, silver and rose gold. Additionally, a stealthy matte black variant will be available for those who don’t like the stunning jet black color.
Another fascinating feature is the fact that the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are IP67-certified water-resistant. However, this is only handy for accidental water drops. Intensive water use is not advised.
The iconic home button has received some love. The button no longer clicks in anymore. Additionally, it is capable of detecting various levels of pressure, thus letting the taptic engine respond with its recognizable feedback. Of course, the touch ID fingerprint sensor is still holding down its usual spot.
Display
Not much has been done to the display as the iPhone 7 features a 4.7-inch Retina Display, while the iPhone 7 features a 5.5-inch display. Of course, these are same with the 6 duo and the 6s duo.
Resolution is still pretty much the same. The iPhone 7 features 750 x 1334 (326ppi) resolution, while the iPhone 7 features 1080 x 1920 (401ppi) resolution. However, both smart phone panels are 25% brighter now, peaking at 625 nits. Additionally, both smartphones feature improved color reproduction, with wider color gamut. Of course, both comes with 3D touch functionality as seen on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
Performance
As expected, the new iPhones features Apple’s new generation chipset known as the A10. This time, the quad-core chip is called A10 Fusion. Two of the cores will handle intensive tasks, while the other pair takes care of lighter loads by having 5 times less energy. How? An Apple-designed controller decides which core handles which application.
The A10 Fusion is said to deliver 40% more computational power and up to 50% faster graphics compared to the A9, while consuming less power overall.
Internal Storage
The new iPhones will come in three storage models – 32, 128, and 256GB. The 16 and 64GB have been scrapped off. Of course, these models have no room for expansion using SD cards.
Something worth mentioning is the fact that, the jet black variant will only be available in 128 and 256 gigs only. Hence, if thinking of getting the jet black color variant, you are sure of getting either of both storage capacities.
Camera
Those who know iPhones, knows iPhones are superb in-terms of camera quality. And of course, the iPhone 7 and 7 plus didn’t disappoint in that regards.
Both the iPhone and the iPhone 7 Plus come with a refined 12MP shooter featuring optical stabilization and wider, F1.8 aperture which should in turn, perform properly even under low light conditions.
The new TrueTone flash available on both smart phone, features 4 LEDs to deliver 50% greater illumination. Color production is also expected to be improved by a next-generation digital signal processor. BTW, the front facing camera now features 5MP.
While the camera specs feels very good on paper, the iPhone 7 Plus comes with more better camera features. The smart phone packs a dual camera setup. While one of the camera works normally, as it is on the iPhone 7, the second shooter is equipped with a telephoto lens for 2x optical zoom. This basically means that you can take much closer shots without having to deal with quality.
Additionally, the iPhone 7 Plus camera gets a beautiful bokeh feature, made possible by the powerful DSP inside it. In layman’s language, this means more blurry background which is ideal for creating dramatic portraits.
Bye to 3.5mm jack, hello to Stereo speakers
This shouldn’t come as a surprise. I mean, based on the frequent leaks, it was rumored that the new iPhones won’t feature the iconic 3.5mm jack. And apparently, that seem to be the case. However, the latest generation of EarPod headphones connect over the lightning connector.
Confusing? Well, what this means is, the new EarPod headphones will work via the lightning connector, which is same port used in charging the smart phone. But not to worry, Apple will produce a lightning to 3.5mm adapter as part of the package. This will essentially allow you use the smart phone with your current 3.5mm headphone.
While that seem like a let down, Apple is bribing you with stereo speakers which is a first on iPhone thus producing rich, dynamic sound. Both speakers are said to be twice as loud compared to the iPhone 6s.
Battery
Although no concrete specs has been given regarding battery, Apple says both smart phone features the best battery capacity on any of its iPhones.
The iPhone 7 is said to last an hour longer than the 6s Plus, while the 7 is said to last two hours of use better than the 6s.
