Over the years, technology has helped the human race in diverse ways. One of the ways it has helped humanity is the ability to utilize the sun. This process is called “Solar Energy“.
Solar Energy which can also be referred to as green energy, has to do with extracting heat from the sun. And this can be used as a means of energy for diverse things.
The prominent these days, is using solar energy in powering our homes and other appliances. When it comes to powering our homes with solar energy, there’s a process involved.
Generating Electricity To Power Our Hones Using Solar Energy
Getting power enough to provide electricity in our homes directly from the sun isn’t as straightforward as it may sound. There are quite a number of processed involved.
Not only are these processes necessary, without them, you probably won’t be harnessing as much energy as you need from the sun.
When it comes to being able to generate solar energy from the sun enough to provide power to our homes, there’s the need for solar panels.
What Are Solar Panels?
Solar Panels also referred to as photo-voltaic (PV) module, are photo-voltaic cells assembled and mounted in a framework.
This uses sunlight as source of energy thus generating direct current electricity. Since the energy generated from the solar panels are direct current, they need to be converted to Alternating current (AC). Converting to AC allows it to be used in powering homes and appliances.
Having explained that, let’s talk a bit more on the benefits of solar panels.
Benefits Of Solar Panels
The use of solar panels birth some valuable importance that I’d like to share with you.
1. Reduce Electricity Bills
Asides the cost of setting up solar energy which includes setting up solar panels in your home, generating energy from the sun is basically free.
And since you are able to generate electricity from the sun, you get to spend a lot less on actual electricity bills.
Another fun fact about solar panels is, they not only generate energy under really sunny conditions, they can still generate energy on cloudy conditions. Of course, energy generated under sunny conditions are a lot higher compared to cloudy conditions.
2. Spend Less, Save More.
Think of this as a sequel to the first benefit given above.
Depending on your location, annual energy cost could be in thousands of dollars. As a matter of fact, according to research, it is said that the average home consumes over $3000 in energy expenditure per year.
With solar energy, these expenditures is greatly reduced. In some cases, these expenditures are completely eradicated.
3. Improve Home Value
Believe it or not, having solar energy in your home increases the value of the home. Reason being, the home generates energy from sun light thus reducing or completely removing electricity bills.
With clients knowing this and knowing they don’t have to worry so much about paying expensive electricity bills, it improves the value of the home.
4. Extends The Lifespan Of The Roof
Roofs have a lifespan. And often at times, this lifespan is greatly shortened by elements like rain, snow and debris.
With solar panels installed on the roof, it protects the roof from these thus making sure the roof reaches its actual lifespan and in most cases, extending them.
And in really sunny conditions, the solar panels shades the house from feeling very hot as the panels absorb the sunlight instead of hitting the roof directly.
5. Longevity
Solar panels on average, have a lifespan of over 20 years. Yes, you read that right.
If you installed the right solar panels, you wouldn’t have to bother about changing or replacing them for as much as 20 years and in some cases, even more. This is because solar panels are built to last.
Is Solar Energy Worth It Now?
Judging from my experience and being a current user of solar energy in my own home, the use of solar energy is definitely worth it.
I live in a country where there isn’t stable electricity from the grid and solar being utilized in my home, makes me not worry about that as it still makes me feel as though I’ve got stable electricity.
If you are wondering whether or not to still go with solar panels and solar energy in this time and age, I’d say yes. Although they can be very pricey during initial installation, they can serve you for years and you wouldn’t have to worry so much about electricity bills.
So, there you have it. These are some of the benefits of solar panels in generating solar energy. Questions? Do not hesitate to ask using the comment session.
